I suppose I'll have to get a pocket protector

So, I'm allergic to San Luis Obispo. Growing up in Orange County, I was never allergic to outside. I thought those that were to be nerd who would rather stay in and play with their pocket protectors. In Santa Barbara, every once and a while, I'd get a runny nose but not a cold. No big deal. Then, San Luis Obispo. Nothing could have prepared me for this. Until we got the OTC Claritin, it was either have my insides melt slowly out through every orifice of my face, or be in a Benedryl-induced haze; neither coming or going; confused at everyone, but not caring about that confusion. The OTC is a little better, but it only works about 50% of the time.

The real issue with the allergies was sleep. I could take a benedryl and knock myself out: but we ran out. And, they would only work for about half the night. Claritin did nothing for my sleep. I wasn't so much bothered by this, but every morning, I would wake up to find my loving husband either with his pillow over his head, or asleep on the couch. I guess what would happen is that I'd fall asleep with my mouth open, as I couldn't breathe through my nose, and because I normally sleep with my mouth closed, it would shut involuntarily. What would follow would be a series of horrific noises which could only be interpreted as me trying desparately to breath through my clogged nose, only to be followed by a loud gasp as I opened my mouth. Sometimes this gasp would be so loud and abrubt that it would wake me up.

The answer to it all came to me in my distressed sleep, as if the Holy Ghost was whispering in my ear, "Sleep semi-upright." I had been struggling and Tyler had actually woken me up I was making so much noise. Other than the slight ache in my lower back from sleeping in such an awkward position, I had no troubles: Tyler said I didn't make any noise and I was able to sleep soundly for the rest of the night. Halleluiah and Lightening Amen. (Which is what the people who run the deli by my work shout in their various conversations.)
